George Foreman, Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Dies Aged 76

Boxing heavyweight legend George Foreman has died at the age of 76, his family said.

Foreman, known in the ring as Big George, competed for decades starting in the 1960s, winning Olympic gold medals and several title belts, including the world heavyweight title twice.

He lost his first title to Muhammad Ali in a jungle fight, a famous Rumble in 1974, but his professional boxing career boasted an astonishing 68 knockouts and 76 total wins, almost double that of Ali’s. Foreman lost five fights in his career.

He won his first world heavyweight championship in 1973 and then won it again in 1994 when he was 45. He retired from the sport in 1997.
